Finding Your Story

A six-week online class that focuses on the role of the narrator.

Finding Your Story

At the heart of almost any essay, poem, or book we admire is an author who has a story to tell. So what’s your story? What’s the thing you’re compelled to talk about and share? How do you hone in on your story, and—in essence—become the writer who is going to tell that story? In this class we’ll talk about the role of the narrator, structure and genre, and how we make the most of the material that our lives present us with. This isn’t a craft class, but we’ll talk plenty about the importance of plot, vivid writing, scene-setting, and knowing our audience. We’ll read examples of stories, essays, and chapters from authors who are storytelling masters. And of course we’ll talk about process and practice and how you can create the space to engage in a productive and satisfying writing life.

The size of the class is limited to 12; participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
